The ol’ toy workshop has been busy in the brief time since last I yammered at you.
That Futzing Skull
So, my little ritual on Friday has become cheese board/catch up on my stories/mess around with toys.
For 4/26 (happy Alien Day to my fellow celebrants), I was trying to put some new, beefier, better arms on my ‘90s suited Red Skull. Somehow, this also turned into “well, lemme try and swap his neck peg to keep his head on without tape”. Which turned into “let me try and make a reinforced new neck peg with a trimmed brush protector and some green stuff”.
The next day, that turned into “let me try and screw the larger peg onto the smaller peg after the green stuff neck broke immediately”.
It was a disaster and a pain in the neck (yohohoho); trying to screw into a plastic ball and also into a 2-3mm, roughly cut plastic peg that is also rotating in place because it’s a ball joint and socket…yeesh. Would not recommend.
But it worked! And now I have a Red Skull with appropriately scaled arms and a head that stays on…vaguely better.
Mandarizz
I finally finished my Jim-Lee-inspired suited Mandarin. I mean, being modelled on Tony Leung goes a long way towards being a handsome devil, but…man, this is just such a good outfit? When Mandarin showed up in the Avengers Epic Collection I was reading, he had green robes with a giant M on the front and pearl earrings.
Jim Lee, correctly, threw all that out and had the man looking like the endboss of one of the better King of Fighters games.
My Mandarin is a repainted MCU Wenwu head on a MCU Matt Murdock body with repainted MCU Mandarin (Ben Kingsley) hands. An on-the-shoulders coat from Todt from the Indiana Jones line really tied the whole figure together.
All This and Big Lob Too
Another long-gestating-in-my-noggin custom that I finally pulled the trigger on when a buddy found the Giannis Antetokounmpo Starting Lineup figure on deeeeeeeep discount at a Marshalls.
Big Lob is Giannis from the waist up; with a hilariously ill-fitting Trae Young jersey. Gloves and lower body from Classified Gung Ho, and holster/belt/bandolier from Classified Duke.
I’m pretty happy with all these guys.
And the Rest
Secret Pitch is finished and sent. The die is cast! etc.
I’m coming up on my last week at the dayjob; there’s a whole story there, but we don’t have to get into it. The short version is that my new dayjob is going to be getting my old house on the market, and then it’s back to the actual job market.
I’ve gotten cowardly about FF2 and everyone’s more or less back to their starting weapons (since apparently there’s individual ultimate weapons that can only be equipped by so-and-so? An axe for only Guy, etc.), but I’m rather enjoying the low-key-Star-Wars riff of the game; just did the first dungeon for the Mythril MacGuffin. I was, somehow, over leveled for the bosses in a game without true levels, possibly because I’m about that grind, or whatever.
